The Melbourne Museum Comedy Tour

The Man is back! This Comedy Festival Ben McKenzie hosts the Melbourne Museum Comedy Tour. Presented by Shaolin Punk and Melbourne Museum, the Man and his team of hilariously interesting comedians will treat you to an evening of science, history and laughter as you wander the spooky silent halls of Melbourne Museum after closing time. Head to the for dates, times and line-ups! Tickets are on sale now via the Comedy Festival web site.

The Man is Graeme Garden…again

Ben McKenzie’s short play A Record or an OBE – in which Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor of famous British comedy troupe the Goodies try to carry on after Bill Oddie’s (fictional) departure in 1975 – returns for seasons at the Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Festival! A Record or an OBE stars Ben as Graeme and Rob Lloyd as Tim, and is directed by Scott Gooding. Tickets are one sale now; check out the Shaolin Punk web site for more information.

Not the Nobel Prize!

It’s been a while, I know; the web site is undergoing a redesign behind the scenes, which is why things have been a bit quiet there. But I had to let you know about an upcoming gig at the Melbourne Museum for Science Week!

Yes, science week is only a week away, and on Friday, August 24, the Museum celebrates in uniquely Melbourne style with “Not the Nobel Prize”. Four scientists will present their theories – but only two of them are presenting real science! A panel of comedians, consisting of Tommy Dean, Claire Hooper, Sue-Ann Post and yours truly, will have to figure out which is which.

Personally, I think I have an unfair advantage…

Tickets are $12/$10, and the show kicks off at 7pm. You need to book, and the number to call is 13 11 02. There’s an unconfirmed second show at 9pm on the same evening, which likely will depend on numbers.

For more info, check out the Museum’s web site or head to the Comedy Festival site’s gig guide.

And don’t forget, there are still a few more weeks of the Channel 31 programming featuring me! You can catch Planet Nerd on Thursdays at 10pm, and TheatreGames LIVE on Fridays at 10pm.

Until next week, keep your Ockham’s razor nice and sharp!

It’s the end – but the moment has been prepared for…

Yes, the Comedy Festival is over, and so is . For now, at least. The Man would like to thank everyone who made Science-ology possible, including Lynn, Cath, Keiran, both Emmas, Neil, Fifi, Paul, Emily and everyone else at Comedy @ Trades, Scott Gooding, Melanie Kerr and a bunch of other people who are too numerous to mention.

Until the Man returns (and it’ll happen soon), you can relive the glory and the passion by reading these reviews, even the bad one (as a scientician, I must be fair and present all the evidence).

  • The AgeTim Richards from The Age rather enjoyed Science-ology.
  • The Groggy Squirrel – the Squirrel reviewed Science-ology in both its incarnations: Lisa Clark saw it during the 2006 Fringe Festival, and Daniel Sheppard saw it in the Comedy Festival this year.
  • The Funny Tonne – in their bid to see as many MICF shows as possible, both Dani and Nathanael saw and reviewed Science-ology, and both gave it 8 out of 10!
  • The Pun – the annual comedy review magazine, distributed for free during the Festival, sent Brewster Hipik along to Science-ology.
  • Chortle – for an opposing view to those above, check out Steve Bennet’s review for the UK-based comedy web site, Chortle.
